Mimulus repens


Prostrate creeping herb that can occasionally be aquatic. Small broad oval leaves in pairs. Two-lipped blue, purple or pink flower with an upright yellow or white tube (sometimes with red spots), with a prominent yellow raised tongue at the base.

Distinctive Features

Roots at nodes forming mats of small paired fleshy stalkless leaves. Mauve flower resembling a monkey face is very distinctive.

Biology

Annual or perennial. Margins of lakes, swamps rivers, grassy wetlands, and temporarily damp places. Can tolerate salty soils, often in saltmarsh.
