Lomatia tinctoria


A small shrub to 1 m that spreads by underground rhizomes so can often form large patches. Leaves with 3-7 pairs of lobes that are open and lacey, a bit like an open feather. Creamy white clusters of grevillea-like clawed flowers at the ends of the branches.

Biology

Perennial. Found only in Tas where it is widespread and frequent in a range of vegetation types on poor soils from sea-level to alpine areas, including grasslands and grassy woodlands.

Similar Species

Kings Holly L. tasmanica is very restricted in its occurrence, confined to western Tas. It has lobed leaves with prickly teeth.
