Mat-forming plant with long lance-shaped leaves to 10 cm, slightly broader towards the tip and occasionally toothed, both surfaces sparsely covered in downy hairs. Single yellow flowers with five petals held in groups of two and three on erect stems.
Plant vigorously stoloniferous with clumps of leaves along the creeping stolons. Stems with sharp stiff flattened hairs, cottony on young plants.
Perennial. Moist to winter-wet soils in grassy wetlands. Seed becomes jelly-like on wetting and sticks it to the soil to aid germination, an adaptation for dry environments.
