Distinctive Features

Showy fluffy bottlebrush-like flowers up to 12 cm long and 7 cm wide, held at the ends of stems up to 80 cm tall.

Biology

Perennial with woody rootstock. Well drained heavy and light soils in grassland, grassy woodland and heathland. Few seeds develop during a wet spring as the upright flower collects water and the pollen is destroyed. Becoming increasingly rare.
