Uperoleia rugosa


Adult length 18-32 mm. Upper surface is warty. Grey to brown in colour, with dark markings. Has mostly unwebbed hands and feet. The tympanum (ear) is hidden. The parotoid glands (external skin gland on the back, neck and shoulder, which extretes a milky substance to deter predators) is yellow and large in comparison to the frog.

Breeding season: spring and summer in temporary pools. Males call from within flooded grasslands any time of the year, except winter.
