Low spreading hairy herb or sub-shrub to 15 cm high, with a woody base and slender, hairy branches. Leaves narrow and pointed to 20 mm long, covered with tawny hairs. Flowers solitary, bisexual.
Fruit woolly above, smooth below, dark brown when dry, with a stiff horizontal wing of 12 mm diameter, faintly veined with a radial slit.
Perennial. Widespread colonizing species. Never dominant.
