Weak prostrate mat-forming herb to 15 cm wide growing in mud. Pairs of bright green oblong leaves each pair with a single green, pink or white flower.

When submerged the stems may be up to 40 cm long. Small round flowers and subsequent fruits at the base of only one of the paired leaves.
